The Environmental and Water Resources Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) selected David Ford, PhD, PE, D.WRE, president of the firm, to receive the 2015 Julian Hinds Award. Dr. Ford was selected "for outstanding contributions and leadership in water resources engineering, planning and management, including application of risk-based analysis for flood damage mitigation and real-time flood response decision making; pioneering research; and exemplary mentoring and training of young engineers."
ASCE presented Dr. Ford with the award at the 2015 World Environmental and Water Resources Congress in Austin, TX. Ford gave an acceptance speech titled, "10 planning and management lessons I learned from Westerns." Among the lessons were: "Don't complain unless you're willing to cook," "Don't get ambushed," and "Finish what you start." After the speech, many in the audience decided they needed to re-watch shows and films such as "The Roy Rogers Show," "True Grit," and "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly."
Others who have received the award include Luna B. Leopold, Leo R. Beard, and other pioneers of the field.
